The Timing ball is a unique device that records time from moment of release of ball to the moment of impact (on ground or object). It can be used to conduct a number of experiments involving acceleration due to gravity (g).

Calculation of Momentum
Calculate the velocity of the ball upon impact, using v = g*t where t is the time in seconds after it is dropped and g is acceleration due to gravity. Calculate the momentum p of the ball upon impact, using p = m*v, where m refers to the mass of the ball.

A hanging mass and a counter-balance are attached to a horizontal bar mounted a top a vertical shaft about 45cm high,and the vertical shaft ties the suspended mass with a horizontal spring. When the shaft is spun ,the suspended mass swings away. The displacement at any given speed is marked by a vertical mounted pointer which moves laterally to match the pointed tip of the suspended mass. By knowing the mass, the speed of rotation and the radius , the centripetal force can be calculated.

A horizontally mounted acrylic tube having a graduated scale (0-300cm3) along one side. A gas tap closes the tube. Pressure gauge is present next to gas tap. Newton's-Second-Law-ApparatusThis apparatus effectively demonstrates newton’s second law of motion. It comprises of a metal base that mounts a spring-loaded bar and two metal spheres. The spring is compressed and locked into place by a lever. One of the spheres slides onto one end of the bar while the other is mounted in the depression adjacent to the opposite end.
On release of the lever the rod imparts a horizontal velocity on the second sphere whilst the other sphere simply falls vertically. Thus, this proves that the vertical and horizontal velocities are independent, as both spheres should fall at the same rate.
