Planck's Constant by Cs Photocell
Item Code : SK054
Principle and Working:
Einstein postulated that light consists of quanta of particles, called photons, whose energy (E) is proportional to their frequency (ν), given by the equation:
In this experiment, narrow-band interference filters are used to select specific wavelengths. Each filter isolates a single spectral line from the light of a high-pressure mercury lamp. The monochromatic light then falls on the cathode of a photocell.
A capacitor, connected between the cathode and anode of the photocell and charged by the anode, is used. An electrometer amplifier measures the voltage across the capacitor without drawing any current.
