Principle and Working:
The Bunsen-Kirchhoff spectroscope is ideal for the observation and measurement of emission and absorption spectra.
In the present setup, the Balmer series of hydrogen and the wavelengths of unknown gases can be studied using this spectroscope. The scale tube of the spectrometer is initially calibrated using a mercury light source so that the marked numbers on the scale correspond to specific wavelengths of light. Subsequently, the emission spectra of hydrogen and nitrogen can be investigated.
