Principle and Working:
The Balmer’s series used hydrogen discharge tube to emit a series of lines in the visible part of the spectrum. Which extends into the ultraviolet range. Rydberg generalized Balmer’s formula in terms of wave numbers to describe the wavelengths of spectral lines of various chemical elements. For hydrogen, Balmer’s formula is a special case of Rydberg’s formula, given by:

R is the Rydberg constant (R = 4B, where B is Balmer’s constant).
